A new way to play

Meople is an early-stage board game start up company. The team needed a way for users to communicate the brand voice through their landing site and for users to build their own custom version of Meople.

Previous state

The first version of the landing page wasn't quite right for Meople's brand. It leaned heavily into lifestyle and less on fun. There was a strong emphasis on family, which is an important part of the Meople story, but it alienated audiences looking to make games for other people in their life. Finally, it was copy heavy. This made the scroll quite long without focusing enough on conversion.

The pivot

Inspiration

The client was inspired by the design of Alice, a mushroom chocolate brand, and Wildwonder, a botanical drink brand. With Alice, she liked the strong typography and waveform shape on the nav bar. Wildwonder also captured her attention because of the bold colors choices, graphic decoration, and waving typography.

First exploration

After reviewing the client's inspiration, I experimented with different interpretations using the inspiration and conversations about the Meople brand as a guide. The first iteration focused on typography, playing with photography, and strong shape cut-outs. However, I don't think it hit the mark.

Second exploration

I focused more on playing around with type, adornments, and shape language while pushing focus on the board game itself. I played around with color and different button styles before combining strong strokes and solid drop shadows with the wave form shape.

Final

In the final, I added the redesign of the box and board I created and let that dictate the rest of the experience. I lasered in on colorful gradients, patterns, iconography, and whimsy to communicate the conceit of Meople and draw them to making their own game.

Launch

Meople launched in Q4 of 2024. They've expanded to 4 custom game types: Meople, Meople Party, Meople Connect, and Meople Touch. They've also gone digital, offering virtual customizable decks.
